Realised that there w as a need to effectively have 2 lengths of track to avoid blocking at stations
1976 expanded to 10 seats and VAL team used
1982 expanded to 20 seats
Panning for deliver by 1989
1983  reported that technical issues resolved
86 first car on test loop
87 5th car and project abandoned
 
Why did it fail?
Feels like a research project. Was it meant to be a delivery project?
Are there other successes - there is an automated line now on the metro
Did the design meet a clear goal? Did it work for the target suburban users?
Was it ever meant to succeed
Continually culling scope
Don't try to advance state of the art in more than 2 areas - Seymour cray.
Is the economic model functional?
Is the design insufficiently flexible?
The Lille system worked because it was a simpler problem - smaller train-like system.
There were no obvious warning signs of failure during the project
